Thanksgiving Day offers a day of refuge in a world of Adversity and Strife

GTN

GTNToday’s news is full of every imaginable form of depravity and perversion. Devastating natural disasters.   Catastrophic threats of global annulation. And much more. This is not new. All who have preceded us experienced similar adversities. Often worse than ours.

In 1723 the New England Colonies were attacked by the “rage and fury” of native American Indians, the ravages of contagious diseases and the “rapacious and bloody Pirates” on the sea coasts. Yet they set aside a day to give God thanks for “our invaluable privileges”, being “restored to health” the “great plenty of the fruits of the earth”. And “above all that He continues to give us the precious benefits and liberties of the Gospel.

In 1789, President George Washington proclaimed Thursday, November 26, as a national “day of public thanksgiving and prayer” in response to the Almighty’s care of Americans prior to the Revolution, assistance to them in achieving independence, and help in establishing the constitutional
government.

In 1863 Lincoln proclaimed that “the nation will celebrate an official Thanksgiving holiday on November 26, 1863.” This was issued immediately after “a civil war of unequalled magnitude” in which 620,000 men died in battle or from disease. “Notwithstanding the waste that has been made in the camp, the siege and the battle-field; the axe has enlarged the borders of our settlements, and the mines, as well of iron and coal as of the precious metals, have yielded even more abundantly than heretofore.”

Population has steadily increased, and the country, rejoicing in the consciousness of augmented strength and vigor, is permitted to expect continuance of years with large increase of freedom. No human counsel hath devised nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy.”

Giving thanks is not just a religious concept, it is our shared American history. While you are enjoying your stuffed turkey, pumpkin pie, and time with family and friends, also remember to give thanks for all your struggles and trials.

“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
I Thess 5:18

A Veterans Day Message from GTN

Veterabs Day GTN

Veterans GTNWe celebrate our US military on this Veterans Day…those who are active duty and those who are veterans…those who have been wounded and those who gave their last measure of devotion to preserve our country and way of life.

It is because of these soldiers’ love of our country and their military service that we enjoy our freedoms today. Words can never adequately express our gratitude for their great personal sacrifice and the cost they and their families have paid for these freedoms… especially as wives and children miss the service members’ daily leadership and investment.

The Global Transformation Network, Inc. (a 501c3 US non-profit), has trained many nationals in war-torn countries in East Africa, West Africa and the Caribbean. We have discovered the the 66 disability lessons that have been written, are most helpful to wounded soldiers and veterans from many countries that have experienced civil war; these disabled nationals embrace our lessons and our presentations.

Awareness and advocacy are critical resources to bring healing and health not only to those wounded in war torn zones around the world, but to all people living with disability. Many concepts are new to them.

In this small, but meaningful way, we hope to honor all men and women, who fight for justice and freedom.

“It’s hot, we work hard and we die.”

Global Transformation Network AfarA wise, old Afar mid-wife in a remote village in northern Ethiopia shared this lament with Jean Kapsner, a veteran SIM nurse, after a high-risk pregnancy ended in death due to hemorrhaging.

Nurse Jean Kapsner shared her reflections with GTN on the plight of Afar women, gleaned from many arduous and sometimes dangerous trips to mobile health clinics in this relatively inaccessible region.

“The Afar women have nothing; they have no hope.”

BUILDING THE SPECIAL NEEDS GTNET

The Global Transformation Network
BUILDING THE SPECIAL NEEDS GTNET
GTNToday, building effective missionary networks around the globe is the single best strategy for tackling the most pressing special needs of persons living with disabilities.

For generations, individual missionary efforts have often been limited to local impact for people with living with special needs.

GTN plans to locate, identify, and publicize each organization, project, and training focused on engaging the common needs of those in the global disability community.  We’ll include the location, contact information and unique resources on an interactive global map. Our team is currently doing extensive research.  The result will be a powerful, yet simple, globally accessible, web platform to make this online linkage a reality.  We seek to promote multi-lateral, multi-national and multilingual collaboration.

The goal is to share information, strategies, experiences, resources, projects, organizations, and networks. This is imperative to achieve transformative breakthroughs in the lives of all seeking special services for special needs.

GTN urges all faith-based initiatives committed to engaging the
disabled with the gospel to use our on-line, disability focused,
informative, web map. Faith-based organizations will be able find
previously unknown resources, thus most effectively leveraging the
power of cross-collaboration and exponentially multiplying their
collective impact.

Today it is a vision; soon it will be an ever-expanding reality.
Like and follow our website…www.gtninc.org…to find out how things
are developing and when the interactive global map will launch.  On Launch day, we’ll send you an invitation to check it out.
When God’s people work together in collaboration, meaningfully
sharing the diversity of their strength, God’s Spirit is unleashed
in remarkable ways.
We envision that new Spirit-led special needs movements will emerge and flourish around the world.

9 For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, 10 so that you may live a life worthy of the LORD and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, 11 being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, 12 and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light. 13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

1 Colossians 1.9-14

Prayer

  • That the Lord avert and downsize storms that threaten life and the way of life.
  • That He bring compassion to these areas that need recovery.
  • Bless those first responders and officials that have acted wisely.
  • Continued prayer for the total rebuilding of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
    Recovery in TX and FL.
  • For those affected by the floods in Bangladesh, India and Nepal have killed 1200 people and affected 16 million others. There are few safety networks or resources.
  • For the Rohingya Muslims as they flee through mountains…a 3 day treck…from Myanmar to Bangladesh because of injustice…they have no legal papers and are not welcomed in Bangladesh….many diseases plague them.
  • For the violence in the US and around the world. There have been 272 incidents of shooting in 2017 in the US. This is more than 1 day in Afghanistan.
  • For the healing of those injured in Las Vegas, healing for their broken hearts because of major life changes, healing for those who have lost loved ones.
  • That those in remote areas with few or no health clinics will receive immunizations which prevent disabilities…like polio.
  • That new laws will be enacted which will improve health around the world.
  • For Terry’s pending knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus.

Praise

  • For stirring the hearts of those to give funds to those affected by the recent tragic weather events.
  • That Dave is feeling better and walking 2 miles and empowering the doctors to diagnosis the problem.
  • That You have received Ed into your arms and his suffering is over.
  • The Lord that Saudi Arabian women will be able to drive starting in June 2018.
  • That an Ethiopian government official promised Dr. Katherine Hamlin that her hospitals would no longer be used to surgically repair obstetrical fistulas…but rather will be used as neonatal units…by 2020. That means that recent laws against early marriage and marital abductions are beginning to take effect. Dr. Hamlin’s hospitals, 5 in Ethiopia and others in several countries, have given women dignity and the ability to return to home.
  • That more girls are able to enter schools and be educated. While there is still much work to be done around the world, progress is being made.
  • We praise the Lord that about 100 Nigerian girls were returned from Baka Haram and are now in school after a year of counseling.
  • We give our gratitude to the Lord, Jesus Christ for giving each of us a home in America. We are proud to be Americans. The character of those who have fought, and the many who have given their lives for our freedoms exhibit character that challenges the rest of us, are such models to our children.
  • The police, first responders and military honor our country, our flag and us.
  • For citizens who love and serve during times of crises and first responders who sacrifice their lives for the rest of us and for the police and military who expose themselves to death to save us in storms and terror.

“. . .than to lay down his life for his friends.”

Diana Mood GTN

GTN Diana MoodAs we all turned on our morning news Monday morning, we were collectively assaulted by the terror, evil. and bloodshed of the senseless terrorizing event which took place in Las Vegas at the end of a country music concert under a moonlit starry sky. Our hearts brake for those who passed away from heinous wounds, for those innocents wounded, some gravely, by the shooter’s bullets, for those struggling for life and for those whose lives will be forever altered by this tragic event.

We express our deepest condolences and sympathy for the lives lost and to their family and friends and our payers and compassion for all the wounded and injured and their family and friends.  We have the greatest praises for all the courageous skilled, local authorities, first responders, hospital physicians, and staff and all the Good Samaritans and off duty community guardians and helpers who continue to work tirelessly saving many lives and healing many wounds.

We are struck by the outpouring of desire to respond and help in some meaningful way.  The local, state, and national call for “Blood donations” punctuates the life and death urgency of this day and many more to follow. Those of you who can donate blood, please do.

As we envision the blood-stained field and streets, in Las Vegas it reminds us of a passage in the Bible…

”For the life of a creature is in the blood.” Leviticus 17:11

We commit all the victims of this massacre and their family and friends to our Heavenly Father and His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, who unconditionally laid down his life and shed his blood for the forgiveness of our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

“Greater love has no man than this, than to lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13
